A Rosie Place for Children serves all 92 counties in the state of Indiana by providing respite care.
A Rosie Place for Children is situated on five beautiful acres in South Bend, Indiana.
Accommodations include six unique kid-friendly bedrooms the children like to call their own. Our home is warm, spacious and colorful featuring nature-inspired themes. The saltwater aquarium, colorful murals, outdoor pond and waterfall are just some of the fun features the children love. Families choose our respite care service for a variety of reasons. Our staff understands the importance of continuity in each child’s care, and respects the role of the caregiver at home. An in-depth assessment is provided by one of our registered nurses to ensure quality care and comfort.
There is no missing the fact that A Rosie Place is unique and special; we simply think outside the box when it comes to caring for our children and their families. Six distinct bedrooms each providing a unique nature-inspired environment. Children can stay in Desert Dreams, Sunny Meadow, Jungle Playground, Moonscape Mountain, The Harbor, or Barefoot Beach. Guests can use one of three bathrooms (the Pond, the Waterfall, and the River) which are especially equipped for a variety of abilities/needs. Children and staff gather in the common rooms: Grand Park (our living room) and Nibbling Nook (the kitchen, of course!). We eat together and play together!

MDA strives for every camp session to provide a true camp experience, including connecting with the outdoors, developing life skills, building lifelong friendships, and providing opportunities to try new things. When kids attend MDA Summer Camp, they gain independence as they spend time away from home, they also learn to accept personal care from someone other than their parents, develop greater self-esteem and confidence, and spend time with other kids who understand what it’s like to live with neuromuscular disease. Each camp includes dedicated volunteer health professionals and trained camp volunteers who meet every child’s medical and physical needs. This team assumes all camper care, including physical and emotional support, providing parents with the opportunity for respite. Camp is available to kids ages 7 - 17 years old who have been diagnosed with a type of neuromuscular disease. Those interested in applying to be a camper can choose to apply to either one in-person camp session or one virtual camp session.
One Rare was founded in 2019 by a mother and her adult son living with Duchene muscular dystrophy. The goal is to provide resources and opportunities that would improve the lives and futures of young adults, aged 18-35, living with rare disease, through education, mentoring, recreation and peer support.
While there are many supportive programs for families and children impacted by rare disease, teens and young adults often age out of programs when they need them the most. One Rare strives to provide relevant resources and opportunities for this community ranging from guidance on transitioning to adulthood to physical, mental and emotional self-care, networking and navigating social interactions, developing professional skills, navigating today’s healthcare systems, personal and patient advocacy, and general pursuit of happiness through mindful recreation and creative expression.
More than 30 years ago, Paul Newman started a free camp where kids could escape the fear and isolation of their medical conditions and, in his words, “raise a little hell.” This remarkable concept sparked a quiet movement, and that one camp launched a global network. Today, there are 30 camps and programs serving the needs of children and families around the world. Their mission is to empower children with serious illnesses and their families to reimagine what is possible by creating inclusive camp and recreational experiences, inspiring confidence and joy, and building community and connection.
SeriousFun provides children living with serious illnesses with a spectacular camp experience and high-quality medical care, all in the safest and most supportive environment. And for the kids, it’s high-flying, friendship-building, memory-making fun!
